In the present thesis we made a comparative evaluation of the Type I cement mortar with different percentages of pozzolana from the zone of Raqchi, comparing it to the Type IP Portland Cement. We performed various tests, all within conformity to Peruvian Technical Norms (NTP). We first evaluated the Type I cement mortars with regard to their resistance to compression, testing the Portland Type IP cement as a control. We used 5 cm (2”) cubes subjected to a constant compression force in conformity with NTP 334.051. After 28 days, of the specimens which were made with 15% to 40% puzzolana, the mortar made with 25% puzzolana yields the best resistance with an increment of 2.90% more resistance than the control mortar made with Portland Type IP cement. The setting time of cement mortars , cement type I with different percentages of pozzolan area Raqchi and IP type of Portland cement was also determined by the Vicat apparatus complying with the specifications given in the NTP . 334 090 and following the procedures of the NTP 334 006 , we got the result that : the average time minimum initial set was 169.80 minutes ( Portland cement type I) and time of maximum average setting was 365.00 minutes or 6.08 hours ( Portland cement type I + 40 % pozzolan ) , which are within the parameters set by the NTP . 334 090 (Table 3 - Physical Requirements p.16 ) non memos 45 minutes for the initial setting and not more than 7 hours (420 minutes). Finally, we analyzed the potential expansion of the Type I and Portland Type IP mortars, exposing each mortar to sulfates. We found that the samples of the Type IP, Type I, and the Type I with added puzzolana from Raqchi expand between 0.1081% and 0.1148% on the horizontal axis (width); 0.1017% and 0.1072% on the vertical axis (height); and 0.1030% and 0.1086% in length. Which are within the allowed parameters according to NTE INEN 0202 , which is equivalent to the ASTM C452-06 .
