In most of the studies reviewed; the characteristics associated with adherence to antiretroviral treatment are; those related to the individual, to the treatment and to the healthcare team and healthcare system. The objective was to determine the characteristics that influence adherence to antiretroviral treatment in people living with HIV, Cusco Regional Hospital, 2021. A cross-sectional, analytical and observational study was carried out. The type of sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience, the calculation was carried out with the EPIDAT 4.2 program, obtaining a total of 120 patients to whom a physical or virtual survey was applied (survey of own elaboration, questionnaire of functional social support of Duke-UNC- 11, Mezzich and Cohen quality of life index, Goldberg general health questionnaire and SMAQ questionnaire). For data analysis, the Chi square test and the p value (p <0.05) were used to determine the statistically significant association using the statistical program SPSS v. twenty-one. In the results, it was observed that of the 120 patients surveyed, the most frequent age range was 30 to 44 years with 46.7% and the most frequent gender was male with 80.8%. It was found that; There is a rate of adherence to antiretroviral treatment of 25.8% and 74.2% of non-adherence, concerning the characteristics related to the individual, only the variables quality of life related to health (p = 0.033) and mental morbidity ( p = 0.016) had a statistically significant association, within the characteristics related to the treatment, only the variable time in treatment (p = 0.000) had a statistically significant association with adherence to antiretroviral treatment, regarding the characteristics related to the health system none of the variables studied had a statistically significant association. In conclusion; It was determined that the adherence rate to antiretroviral treatment was low (25.8%), and there are characteristics such as health-related quality of life, mental morbidity and time in treatment that influence adherence to antiretroviral treatment in people living with HIV, Cusco Regional Hospital, 2021.
