The present research aims to analyze the influence of polystyrene on concrete in the properties of compressive strength, specific gravity and thermal conductivity. For this concrete witnesses were used, which were manufactured with fine aggregates of the quarries Mina Roja and Cunyac, aggregate coarse of the quarry Vicho, cement Yura Type IP, polystyrene beads of a diameter of 0.3 – 3mm; The design of blends for concrete briquettes was calculated under the parameters of ACI 211.1 for a design of f'c = 210 kg / cm2. The concrete briquettes were tested at 7, 14 and 28 days for the tests of resistance to compression and specific weight, the thermal conductivity tests were tested only at 28 days and have a measurement of 10cm in diameter by 10cm in height . Proportions of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of polystyrene were used replacing the coarse aggregate. It could be seen that adding polystyrene to the concrete mix reduces the specific weight of the concrete and the thermal conductivity of the concrete, but the compressive strength is affected as more polystyrene is added to the mixture. The best results were observed in the dosages of 10% of polystyrene replacing the coarse aggregate, at 10% of polystyrene replacing the coarse aggregate obtained a decrease of 3.61% of the specific weight with respect to the standard concrete and a decrease of 13.68% of the thermal conductivity.
