The research is called “IMPROVEMENTS IN THE COMPRESSION RESISTANCE AND WATERPROOFING OF A SILKY SUBGRADE SOIL TREATED WITH STIPA ICHU BIOCHAR AND POLYPROPYLENE FIBER FOR LOW TRAFFIC VOLUME ROADS.” The research seeks to determine if the addition of these materials can be a viable and effective alternative. Therefore, it is hypothesized that the incorporation of biochar and polypropylene fiber will improve the compressive strength of the soil and reduce its permeability. In this sense, the need arises to understand how these additives could improve the properties of the soil for their possible application in the paving of the Huilcarpay – Cusco road. The methodology has a quantitative approach, correlational level, and experimental design. To do this, we focused on studying the influence that the addition of Stipa ichu biochar and polypropylene fiber has on the compression resistance and impermeability using three addition percentages by weight (1%, 2% and 3%). In which different processes and measurements were carried out. Firstly, the Huilcarpay area was selected where excavations of three pits were carried out along the Huilcarpay - Cusco road. These excavations provided the necessary stratigraphic profiles and characterization tests were carried out, including reduction of field samples to laboratory samples, moisture content, granulometric analysis by sieving, limits of consistency and modified Proctor test. With these data, it was determined that the soil was silty type. Then, the quantities by weight of Stipa ichu biochar, polypropylene fiber and their combination were designed to be added to the material and make the test tubes. A total of 105 laboratory tests were carried out, with three samples for each variant for the compression test and five samples for the permeability test by the variable head method. The results obtained revealed that the addition of biochar, polypropylene fiber and both compounds at the same time improved the compressive strength of the soil. The best results were observed with an addition of 3% by weight of these materials. Regarding the permeability test, a reduction in its value was observed, indicating that the soil became more impermeable due to the presence of Stipa ichu biochar and fiber PP. This effect suggests that biochar acts as a barrier that makes it difficult for water to pass through the soil. These findings suggest that the addition of biochar and polypropylene fiber may be an effective strategy to improve soil properties and, potentially, its application in building road infrastructure in a more sustainable manner.
