manera inadecuada.
INTRODUCTION: Self-medication is a risky practice that can cause adverse effects, therapeutic and antimicrobial failures, among other consequences that are increasingly increasing, even worsening the natural development of some underlying disease. The characteristics and patterns of this risky practice differ by population due to different contexts and associated factors, therefore, it is important to conduct research that allows us to identify them. OBJECTIVE: Identify the factors associated with self-medication in the province of Cusco, January – December 2023. METHODS: This is a retrospective analytical cross-sectional study, with a sample of 579 residents over 18 years of age who meet both the inclusion and exclusion criteria; who answered a questionnaire that covered the variables of interest for the study. The prevalence of self-medication in our province was calculated, as well as the frequency and association of the variables using the Chi-square test; In addition, the probability of self-medication was calculated using prevalence ratios (PR). RESULTS: The prevalence of self-medication was 78.76% and the associated factors were being female (RP=1.11), having completed secondary school (RP=1.19), low socioeconomic level (RP=1.21), having an informal job (RP=1.16 ), motivated more frequently by the prolonged waiting time in health centers, by pain syndromes and respiratory problems, making use of analgesics and antibiotics; In addition to being influenced by the pharmaceutical chemist and their own initiative when purchasing medications, and finally, the most used source of information to satisfy doubts was the Internet and the most frequent purchasing game was in pharmacies and pharmacies. CONCLUSIONS: In our population, the prevalence of self-medication is quite high, in addition to being more related to the female population with a lower socioeconomic level, as well as secondary education and an informal job due to the lack of time that comes with going to health centers that are so congested in our population. reality, in addition to seeing that there is a high percentage of inappropriate use of antibiotics and other medications.
