Background: Preeclampsia is a disease of pregnancy, delivery and puerperium, which has a multisystemic origin, that affects 4.5% of pregnancies worldwide. Studies show association with acute maternal infections such as urinary tract infection, which can predispose the picture up to 60%. The objetive of the study is determine if there is an association between urinary tract infection and severity of preeclampsia in patients of the Obstetrics-Gynecology service of Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital EsSALUD- Cusco, 2017 Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional analytical study of cases and controls in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service of the Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital EsSALUD-Cusco. It includes patients diagnosed with preeclampsia treated until the time of delivery, excluding if they have comorbidities, another infectious picture or incomplete data. Sampling of convenience. Data analysis with OR, X2, p <0.05, 95% CI, and T of Student. Results: The cases had severity criteria in 81.1% and controls 54.1%. The average age was 33.65 +/- 6.19 years. Statistically significant differences were found between visual alterations, intense headache, thrombocytopenia, Sd of Hellp, preterm RN, low birth weight, RCIU with p <0.05. There is an important relationship between urinary infection and the severity of preeclampsia (p = 0.013), with an OR of 3.6 (CI: 1.2 - 10.3) Conclusions: The patient with a history of urinary infection during pregnancy is 3.6 times more likely to present preeclampsia with criteria of severity compared to patients who did not present it, at Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital ESSALUD-Cusco, 2017.
