The objective of this research work was to determine the relationship between family functioning and the perception of negative stereotypes towards old age of nursing students at a university in Chiclayo, 2023. The study was based on a quantitative approach, with a non experimental design. cross-correlational. The sample was made up of 238 students from the first to tenth cycle of the professional nursing career, from the Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo Catholic University who met the specified selection criteria. A simple and stratified random probability sampling technique was used. In addition, the survey technique was applied using 2 questionnaires (FF-SIL, CENVE) that will measure family functioning and stereotypes towards old age, which have validity criteria (criterion, content and construct) and reliability (Alpha of Cronbach). The data were processed and analyzed in the IMS SPSS version 25 program. The results showed that 48.5% of the respondents evidenced a moderately functional family level, of which the Adaptability (48.1%) and Cohesion (38.8%) dimensions stand out with greater percentage. Furthermore, 51% of students presented a high level of perception of negative stereotypes towards old age, with the personal character factor being the one with the highest percentage (51.9%). Therefore, it is concluded by Spearman Correlation that there is an inverse and significant relationship between both variables (coefficient of -.434 and significance level less than 0.05); Therefore, the higher the level of family functioning, the lower the perception of negative stereotypes towards old age.
