Background: H. pylori infection is a global public health issue and a significant risk factor for gastric cancer development. The increase in resistance to clarithromycin compromises the effectiveness of conventional triple therapy. Dual therapy has variable eradication rates and a lower incidence of adverse effects compared to other regimens. Objective: To evaluate H. pylori eradication rate with dual therapy vs conventional triple therapy in patients with dyspepsia. Materials and methods: Analytical, observational retrospective cohort study. 1 506 patients with H. pylori infection were included, 454 were treated with dual therapy and 1 052 with conventional triple therapy. The Chi-squared test (χ2) was used to analyze categorical variables, and the Student’s t-test was used for group comparisons. A p value <0,05 was considered statistically significant for all analyses. Relative risk (RR) and its corresponding confidence interval (CI) were used as a measure of association. Results: In patients who received dual therapy, an eradication rate of 84,58% (384/454) was obtained, p<0,001, which is higher than the 73,86% (777/1 052) obtained with conventional triple therapy. Conclusions: The eradication rate of dual therapy with amoxicillin and PPI was higher than that obtained with conventional triple therapy.
