The mutual fund market in Chile has experienced significant growth in recent years in terms of net assets under management, number of participants and number of fund management companies. This development can be attributed to the competitive strategy of the SAFMs operating in the industry. In this context, this article analyzes the effect of market competitiveness on the financial strength of the companies that manage mutual funds in Chile between 2009 and 2021. Using data from the Superintendency of Securities and Insurance of Chile (SVS), indicators such as the Herfindahl-Hirschman index (HHI) will be used to measure the degree of competitiveness in the mutual fund sector, and the Z-Score will be used as a measure of financial solvency. The findings reveal the presence of a positive and statistically significant relationship between the degree of competition in the market and the financial solvency of Chilean SAFMs.
