The present work tries to evaluate what is the association between economic growth and bureaucratic corruption. The hypothesis formulated in this work is that the association between economic growth and bureaucratic corruption is negative, that is, corruption slows down economic growth. In this sense, the data from the Control of Corruption of the World Governance Indicators (WGI) of the Data Bank of the World Bank of 138 countries for the period between 2002-2021 is used using panel data. After the analysis of the data, it is found a negative association between economic growth and corruption. The chosen regression would indicate that with an increase of one percentage point in the score obtained in the inverted corruption control index (that is, the country is perceived as more corrupt), the Logarithm of GDP per capita decreases by 9.45% with a significance level of 5%. Likewise, in additional regressions, it is seen that this negative effect is around 10% in all regressions. In none of the cases is a significant positive relationship observed. Therefore, the result not only proves the null hypothesis proposed in the present work, but also agrees with the "Sanding the wheels" hypothesis that has been widely discussed in the literature.
