This study aimed to establish the general relationship between Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) and periodontal status in patients infected with IDV 1 AIDS, held at the Loreto Regional Hospital in 2009. The methodology was not experimental, correlational, cross-sectional sample of 136 patients, was transcribed from the medical records of each of the last CD4 count, viral load and whether the patient was on HAART or not. To determine each patient's periodontal condition was assessed by bleeding on probing (SS), probing depth (PS), clinical attachment level (NIC) and the simplified oral hygiene index (OID-S) was considered statistically significant if p<0.5 Results: 136 (100%) people with IDV 1 AIDS shows that 68.4% TARGA and 31.6% do not TARGA done, it was found that patients on HAART had lower probing depth (p = 0.01) and greater clinical attachment level (p = 0.000) compared with patients on HAART absent when evaluated bleeding on probing patients on HAART had higher bleeding on probing compared to those patients not on HAART (p = 0.52). When oral hygiene was assessed, the group with HAART had a higher average OIH-S. In relation to CD4 count, patients with counts <200 Cells/mm3 cells 1 mm3 had a slight decrease in probing depth. In conclusion the study shows that highly active antiretroviral therapy is significantly associated with periodontal condition, probing depth and clinical attachment level.
