The essay took place in Los Jacintos S/N, San Juan Bautista district, where 12 individuals cages were installed and equiped with food plates and water recipients each. The objective was to determine if the food has influence on the cuy´s (Cavia cobayo) gain of weight and if that can assure food security in the outskirts of Iquitos city cuyes under three years old were brought from local comunities, and placed randomly in individua cages, considering treatments and repetiions. The fully random design with three treatments and four repetitions determined that the food has influence over cuy´s. According to the crossed contrast test, the final weight and weight gainance don´t showes estatisticly significant differences; about food consumption and food conversion there is a significant high difference in the treatments. Hydroponic corn Green and rice are a food alternative for feeding small species in our región specially for seasons where there is no firm ground due to river floodngs. Hydroponic used for feeding animals has low fiber content (12%) compared to provender produced on firm ground (18%). It is very important to Know this when feeding polygastric animals. Food security is achieved when everyone has acces to enagh, safe and nutritious food to cover their needs and cultural preference for a healthy and active life. Food security is based on availability and sustainability of food production to serve: Vulnerable groups with a critical nutritional state. Food security includes: 1) Inmediate availability of safe and nutritious food and 2) ensured food sustainability which is socially aceptable (without having to steal for food, or look for it in trash cans, etc). This paper is an alternative for those people and it shows the population growth of this specie, which indicates that producing efficiently managed cuyes is sustainable in time.
