The objective of the research was to determine the effect of an educational intervention on oral health knowledge of mothers and oral hygiene of pre-school children of the Belen Health Center 2017. Type of quantitative study, design quasi-experimental; sample of 30 mothers and 30 children per group, a questionnaire was used to measure the knowledge of mothers and the oral hygiene index (IHOS) of their children. Before the educational intervention, the mothers of the experimental group presented 53.3% regular knowledge, 36.7% deficient and 10% good; in mothers of the control group, 63.3% regular, 33.3% deficient and 3.3% good. After the intervention, in the case of the mothers of the experimental group, 76.7% had a good level of knowledge and 23.3% had a regular level, no mother with poor knowledge. In mothers of the control group 70.0% regular knowledge; 23.3% good and 6.7% poor. There is a significant difference between the level of oral health knowledge in preschool mothers of the control and experimental groups (calculated t = 4,100 and p=0,000130) after the educational intervention was applied. There are significant differences (p <0.05) in favor of the IHO of the experimental group, the p: calculated t value = 5.236 with bilateral significance p = 0.000002, and the pre and post test scores of the control and experimental group of: calculated t = 3.410 with bilateral significance p = 0.001. The level of knowledge of the mothers was good in 76.7% and the oral hygiene of the preschoolers was adequate and acceptable in 100% (60% adequate and 40% acceptable), demonstrating that the educational intervention had significant effects on the knowledge in oral health of mothers and oral hygiene of preschool children, from the Belen Health Center.
