The objective of this research work is to determine if emotional intelligence and academic performance have a reciprocal relationship, research carried out in students who are in fifth grade. The methodological structure adhered to the quantitative approach, in the case of the type used, it was basic, non-experimental and correlational in design. The sample is non-probabilistic, 90 students were taken into account. Regarding the technique and instruments used, they were the survey and with respect to the emotional intelligence variable, a questionnaire was used, and for academic performance, the recording of grades. The results achieved were, in the case of the emotional intelligence variable, a 71.1% high level, in the case of academic performance, 70.0% reached an expected achievement. Finally, it was concluded that with a correlation level of 0.644 and a significance of 0.00, the positive and high relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance was also identified.
