The research aims to identify the relationship between metacognitive skills and the development of literacy in third grade students of Primary Education of the Educational Institution María Parado de Bellido UGEL 02-Rímac, the study is framed within the positivist paradigm, approach quantitative and type of research was basic, non- experimental correlational transectional design, we worked with a sample of 106 students of the third grade of Primary Education, to which two measuring instruments were applied, the Metacognitive Skills Inventory and the reading instrument -Writing PROLEC-R, both instruments have corresponding validity and reliability. As a result of the descriptive part, it is evident that 88.7% of the third grade students present an average level of metacognitive skills, 5.7% present a high level and at the same time a low level. Likewise it is observed that 56.6% of the students are in process in terms of literacy, 29.2% are located in expected achievement, while 14.2% in the beginning in terms of reading and writing. As for the test of hypotheses, they account for the existence of a relation rs =,936 ** between the variables: metacognitive abilities and the development of literacy indicating that there is a positive relationship, with a strong positive correlation level. According to the results, it can be inferred that the better the management of metacognitive skills, the better the development of literacy in third grade students of Primary Education.
