The objective of this research work is to make known the scarce scientific knowledge about the new coronavirus, the high speed of spread and the ability to cause deaths in vulnerable populations generate uncertainties about the best behaviors and strategies to use to face the pandemic in the world. In Peru, the challenges are even greater due to factors that include insufficient knowledge about the transmission characteristics of the virus, a scenario of great social inequality, with thousands of people living in precarious housing and sanitation conditions, difficult access to water and crowd situations. The health crisis caused by the Covid-19 epidemic has left the Peruvian population in a situation of extreme vulnerability, with high unemployment rates and deep cuts in social policies. The rapid spread of Covid-19 and the large amount of information spread in the context of the pandemic (some unreliable) generated changes in the behavior of the population, psychological suffering and mental illness. Furthermore, the pandemic has caused many of the plans, projects and expectations to be rethought, which has led to fear, uncertainty and insecurity. At the same time, there were changes in education, such as the suspension of the educational calendar, the introduction of new teaching methodologies and the incorporation of digital technologies. This teaching-learning scenario, loaded with tension, anxiety and uncertainties, triggers emotional imbalances and mental health problems. During the pandemic, all higher education institutions decided to suspend regular in-person classes and distance students due to growing concerns. For some experts, this action can generate negative psychological consequences among university students such as academic stress. Furthermore, the closure of institutions can generate negative emotions, since for many students the university campus is a welcoming place to meet friends. In this context, the objective of this study was to determine the relationship that exists between social isolation and academic stress upon returning to the classrooms in the Automation Specialty, UNE, 2022.
