The objective of this research work is to determine the association of eating habits and physical activity with the prevalence of overweight and obesity, according to gender, in secondary school students at the public EI United Nations, Santa Cruz-Huachipa, 2019. It was a descriptive-correlational cross-sectional research applied to 222 students between 12 and 17 years of age. Anthropometric measurements were carried out, a survey was applied on eating habits (α = 0.899) and physical activity (PAQ A) (α = 0.65) which were validated by means of an expert judgment and the Crombach Alpha. The results show that 22.5% of women and 14.4% of men were overweight; that 54.9% of women and 47.7% of men had adequate eating habits. 90% of overweight women, 72.7% obese, and 81% of men had low physical activity. Eating habits had a significant association (p <0.05) with overweight and obesity (P = 0.001) for both genders with a mean positive Spearman correlation level (Rho = 0.224); in the same way, there was a significant association of physical activity with overweight and obesity (p = 0.000) with a very strong positive Spearman correlation (Rho = 0.878). In conclusion, it was shown that eating habits and physical activity are associated with overweight and obesity in students of both genders.
