Objective: To evaluate the sociodemographic and university factors associated with food insecurity in young university students in Metropolitan Lima, 2022. Methodology: A cross-sectional online survey was applied to a sample of university students belonging to UPCH and UNMSM. Content validity and internal consistency were evaluated by calculating Aiken's V coefficient and Cronbach's alpha. Sociodemographic and university characteristics were presented as percentages for categorical variables and averages for quantitative variables. Food security and food insecurity status were dichotomized, and a bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi2 test and a multivariate analysis with crude and adjusted Poisson regression to determine the prevalence ratio, establishing a 95% confidence interval. Results: The frequency of food insecurity in young university students in Metropolitan Lima was 41.33%, higher than the average for the Latin American population (38.7%). The sociodemographic and university characteristics that were associated with a higher probability of being food insecure according to the adjusted model were: 1) Living alone (PR=1.86; 95% CI: 1.25 - 2.78; p=0.003) and 2) Belonging to a public university (PR=1.45; 95% CI: 1.03 - 2.05; p=0.033). The factors associated with a lower probability of having food insecurity were: 1) Having a monthly personal income greater than 1500 soles (PR=0.45; 95% CI: 0.20 - 0.99; p=0.049) and 2) Belonging to the faculty of economic and administrative sciences (PR=0.46; 95% CI: 0.21 - 0.99; p=0.049). Conclusions: The factors associated with a higher probability of suffering food insecurity in young university students were living alone and belonging to a public university, while the factors associated with a lower probability were having a personal monthly income of more than 1500 soles and belonging to the faculty of economic and administrative sciences.
