The present research sought to analyze theoretical and empirical studies on family functionality and social skills (HHSS) in adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age, so a documentary research was carried out where different articles with no more than five years old were reviewed, both in English and Spanish, which were published in indexed databases such as Scielo, Redalyc, Elsevier and Scopus, as well as in the repository of different universities in Latin America. Based on this, it was concluded that most of the research reviewed is of a quantitative approach with a correlational design and these are not conclusive, since some of them find a relationship between the variables and others do not. Otherwise, the most used instruments to evaluate family functionality are the Smilkstein family APGAR, and the Family Functioning Perception Questionnaire (FF-SIL) by Pérez, de la Cuesta, Louro & Bayarre, while the most used instruments to measure social skills, in Peru, it is the MINSA social skills test, while in Latin America, the Goldstein HHSS scale, the Gismero EHS and the BAS III are used to an equal extent. Finally, within the theoretical bases it is found that the development of the individual's social skills is strongly influenced by the family functionality that he or she perceives; therefore, having good family functionality will encourage the individual to function effectively in their environment and to face the adversities of daily life.
