The aim of the present study was to describe preventive knowledge about dengue in each of the provinces of the departments of Tumbes and Piura, Peru, and explore its relationship with the total incidence of confirmed cases in both departments during the year 2022. Information from the National Survey of Budget Programs (ENAPRES) provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) for 2022 and records of dengue cases provided by CDC Peru - National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control were used to determine the incidence rate of cases by province and the frequency of positive responses by province to each of the independent knowledge variables: knowledge about the mode of transmission, symptomatology, actions to take in response to the disease, and preventive measures. Spearman's correlation was used to determine the association of these variables. It was found that Piura recorded 12,150 cases, with an incidence of 577.88 per 100,000 inhabitants; Morropon was the most affected area. Tumbes reported 723 cases, with an incidence of 282.31 per 100,000 inhabitants, with the province of Tumbes being the most affected. The majority in Piura (85%) and Tumbes (90.4%) recognized the mosquito bite as the mode of transmission. The most recognized symptoms were fever and headache. Regarding the willingness to go to a health center, Piura had an average of 78.1% and Tumbes 80%. The most common preventive measure was "Covering containers" (34.1%). It is concluded that, although there is good knowledge about the transmission of dengue and willingness to seek medical attention, it is necessary to improve education about all symptoms and preventive measures. It is recommended to implement more comprehensive and region-specific awareness campaigns to reduce the incidence of dengue.
