Cosmetics are an essential part of daily life, but they can cause unwanted side effects. The cosmetic industry in Peru has experienced significant growth in recent years, which has generated the need to strengthen sanitary surveillance to ensure the safety and quality of cosmetic products marketed in the country. The present research work seeks to establish a comprehensive regulatory approach to strengthen the sanitary surveillance of cosmetic products in Peru. The laws and regulations of Peru, the United States, Spain and Brazil on cosmetic products were analyzed, as well as scientific information related to adverse reaction notifications and safety studies on these products. The results obtained identified deficiencies in current health surveillance, such as the lack of a standardized format for reporting adverse events, a database on adverse events or digital platforms for safety information, insufficient economic penalties for infractions committed, among others. It was concluded that the safety of cosmetic products in Peru faces challenges such as the lack of tools for reporting adverse events, which would allow for their collection and analysis, as well as stricter control and regulation measures for the sanitary surveillance of cosmetic products. This research presents a proposal to strengthen the sanitary surveillance of cosmetic products in Peru, in order to guarantee the safety and health of consumers.
