Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a prolonged non-communicable disease. People affected by DM2 are considered a population at risk. Because of this, it is important to promote self-care to reduce the number of complications. Objective: To determine the level of self-care practices of people affected by type 2 Diabetes Mellitus attending the Tahuantinsuyo Bajo Maternal and Child Health Center, 2023. Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study of diabetic patients at a health center in Independencia. Method: The sample consisted of 91 patients diagnosed with DM2 and selected by non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The instrument applied was the PRAUT-DI2-COV questionnaire, adapted and validated by the authors. However, due to the health emergency, only the first three dimensions were considered. The reliability of the instrument was determined by Cronbach's Alpha (Alpha=0.858). Results: 84.6% of the patients with type 2 DM had a good level of self-care practices. In the first two dimensions, the excellent level predominated with 50.5% and 47.3%, in terms of general self-care practices, personal development and social interaction, respectively. In the specific health self-care dimension, a good level was evidenced with 49.5%. Conclusions: It was determined that people with type 2 diabetes mellitus performed mostly good self-care practices.
