Background: Hypertension (HTN) is the leading risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in Peru. Although guidelines for its management exist, there is little information about effective control in the country, and no recent population studies describe patients with uncontrolled HTN. Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and anthropometric characteristics of patients with uncontrolled HTN in Peru according to the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) between 2015-2022. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with secondary analysis. The database from 2015 to 2022 was used, and univariate analysis was performed using the Stata v18 statistical program. Results: Between 2015 and 2022, although most people with HTN received treatment, 49.7% did not control the disease. Uncontrolled hypertensive patients were predominantly women (58.5%), adults younger than 65 years (54.1%), from coastal regions (38.6%), with obesity (43.3%), and higher wealth (21.0%). There was a higher proportion of uncontrolled HTN in patients with comorbidities (diabetes, alcohol, and tobacco consumption). The prevalence and treatment of HTN remained stable over time, but uncontrolled HTN increased significantly (from 50.6% to 60.1%). Conclusions: The largest proportion of uncontrolled hypertensive patients were women, adults younger than 65 years, living in coastal departments, and presenting with obesity.
