Introduction: Chronic pain is a public health problem that mainly affects older adults. To approach it, physiotherapists must develop communication skills that meet the patient's needs. Poor communication is one of the main causes of dissatisfaction and generates abandonment of treatment. Having a care model based on communication skills can improve adherence, achieve objectives efficiently and reduce service costs. Objective: Describe the characteristics of a care model based on communication skills in the physiotherapy intervention of older adults with chronic pain in a center in Santa Anita during November-December 2023. Description of the experience: This model consists of communication skills such as non-verbal communication, silence, active listening, validation of pain, affective behavior, shared decision making and providing understandable information; which were applied throughout the physiotherapy intervention of the elderly patient. Conclusion: The present model of care includes communication skills such as non-verbal communication, initial questions, use of silence, active listening, validation of pain, affective behavior, shared decision making and providing understandable information. Its application, according to evidence, results in high satisfaction in older adult patients with chronic pain.
