Background: Self-medication is a public health problem, commonly practiced by adults, who choose medications without a doctor's prescription. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this bad habit in the population; studies have reported an increase in this practice, erroneous beliefs and insufficient knowledge that self-medication entails. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of an educational intervention on the knowledge of self-medication during COVID-19 in adults of the Los Próceres de Surco Educational Institution in the 2022 period. Material and methods: The study is pre-experimental, with a quantitative approach, made up of 123 adult parents who met the inclusion criterion. The technique was a 21-question questionnaire developed and validated by 10 expert judgments and submitted to pilot testing using Kuder-Richardson, which turned out to be 0.76, and the educational plan was evaluated by 4 experts. Results: It was evident that the majority of adults were 30 to 59 years of age (76.42%), the predominant sex was women (39.02%) and the predominant level of education was completed secondary school (56.10%). Prior to the educational intervention, the level of knowledge about self-medication during COVID-19 was low (55.28%) and medium (35.78%); Subsequently, the level of knowledge was high (85.37%), it was analyzed using Wilcoxon's non-parametric test, resulting in statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: The educational intervention was effective, underlining the importance of education in risky health practices to ensure informed and safe decision-making.
