The aim of the study was to evaluate the dynamics of collecting and disposing of stray dogs in the Miraflores district during the year 2019. For this process, the dog registry from the zoonosis department of the Miraflores municipality was used. The research was an observational, descriptive, and retrospective study. The database from the zoonosis department of the Miraflores municipality, which contained information about stray dogs in public areas, was utilized. Out of the total number of animals collected by the patrol in 2019 (268 dogs), 19.8% (53) of them were adopted, and 24.3% (65) were returned to their owners. A statistically significant difference (=0.000) was found in the proportion of dogs collected six months before and six months after the functioning of the canine patrol. Out of a total of 196 dogs for which information was recorded, it was observed that male dogs, adults, medium-sized, undefined breed, and apparently normal body condition dogs were predominant. The only difference found was in the proportion of dogs by size, with higher proportions after the implementation of the patrol (P=0.007). The results highlight the need for citizens to develop greater awareness regarding responsible pet ownership to ensure the well-being of animals and public health is not compromised.
