Background: In recent years, a greater number of adolescents with inadequate food intake has been observed, likewise, overweight and mental health problems are increasing in this age group, thus harming their health in the short and long term. Likewise, there is not enough research evaluating how affective state can influence diet quality, and the latter on anthropometric indicators. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between positive and negative affective state and anthropometric indicators with diet quality in high school students of I.E.E Juan Guerrero Quimper, 2023. Methodology: Quantitative, analytical, observational and cross-sectional study with a sample of 232 students from 15 to 17 years old. Dietary intake was evaluated from a frequency of food consumption and diet quality using the Índice de Alimentación Saludable para la población española (IASE), where <50 points indicate “poor” diet quality, from 50 to 80 points “needs changes” and >80 points “good” diet quality. The Positive and Negative Affect Scale (SPANAS) was also measured, and anthropometric measurements were taken. To determine the dependence relationship of diet quality on SPANAS and anthropometric indicators, a multiple linear regression analysis was performed. Results: It is reported that half of the students have a diet quality less than or equal to 59±4.25 points, which means that they “need changes”; likewise, 76.7% of the students present a positive affective state (PA) and 47.2% a negative affective state (NA), both from moderate to extreme. According to the BMI/age indicator, overweight and obesity represent 33.2% and, according to waist circumference, 16.4% are at high to very high cardiovascular risk. In the regression analysis, it was reported that for each point that EAP increases, diet quality increases by 0.14 points (R2=0.07, p=0.039), and for each point that diet quality increases, the BMI/Age and waist circumference value will decrease by 0.08 (R2=0.16, p=0.041) and waist circumference by 0.18 (R2=0.16, p=0.044). Conclusions: A direct relationship of diet quality by positive affective state was found; whereas an inverse relationship of diet quality with BMI/Age and waist circumference is reported in the adolescents evaluated.
