The older adult population is constantly increasing globally and demographic data anticipate drastic population growth in the coming decades. In this context, there is evidence of a shortage of resources in various countries to meet the health needs of this population. Neurodegenerative diseases, dementia, and cognitive impairment are conditions that limit their functionality. In the face of this, interventions such as cognitive rehabilitation emerge that, when complemented by art therapy, seek to preserve and restore cognitive functions through artistic techniques. The benefits of art therapy are not limited to the cognitive sphere; improvements in the social and emotional levels of patients are also observed. The overall objective is to carry out a systematic review that analyses art therapy as an intervention technique in the cognitive rehabilitation of older adults over the past decade, through the collection and analysis of both national and international research, including studies published between 2013 and 2023. The methodology used has a qualitative approach and is of a documentary type. It is concluded that art therapy represents an effective technique of intervention in the cognitive rehabilitation of older adults, benefiting their emotional well-being and quality of life.
