Introduction: The family plays an essential role in the intervention of language problems, specifically for late talkers (LTs). However, there are often barriers to family involvement in therapy sessions. The Hanen program will allow promoting family participation in the treatment of late talkers. Objective: To describe the application of the Hanen program to promote and strengthen family participation during the therapeutic intervention of a child identified as a late talker in a private center in Lima during the period January-September 2022. Description of work: This study describes the case of a 3-year-old late talker, whose parents faced barriers to participate in therapy sessions, such as: full-time jobs, beliefs, and lack of knowledge of strategies. After implementing the Hanen program, these limitations were successfully reduced. Conclusion: The application of the Hanen program consists of 6 steps: “observe-wait-listen”, “play face to face”, “imitate”, “interpret”, “comment” and “participate and play”, which must be executed in an orderly manner. Thanks to this program, parents increased the child's language skills and a favorable family-therapist bond was established.
