During adolescence, young people are exposed to risks such as alcohol and tobacco consumption. These behaviors can cause addiction, and the family and friend environment influences decision-making. Self-care agency is essential during adolescence, as it is a period in which young people begin to make decisions and take responsibility for their physical and emotional well-being. Objective: To evaluate the self-care agency capacity on alcohol and tobacco consumption of students aged 18 to 21 years of a Public Alternative Basic Education Center, El Agustino, in 2023. Material and method: Quantitative-descriptive cross-sectional study where 92 adolescents participated. The survey was used as a technique, where a meeting was held with the students to explain the objectives of the study, informed consent was given, and the safety and well-being of the participants was ensured, complying with bioethical principles. Result: 58% were men, the average age was 19.63 years and 53% had regular self-care capacity. Conclusion: The self-care capacity of the students is regular, showing areas of improvement in the management of alcohol and tobacco consumption. Strengthening their informed decision-making skills is needed to promote healthier behaviors focused on the social environment.
