Upon the national and international measurements on school students’ reading level, an interest on doing research on the strategies used by classroom teachers to approach reading has been raised. There is also an interest on finding out if such strategies take into account the most recent scientific and technological contributions. Thus, this paper is based on the scoping review methodology. The goal is to analyze published scientific evidence on reading comprehension methodological strategies applied within basic education during the 2019-2023 term. The search for sources of evidence was made in the Scopus, EBSCOhost and SciELO databases. After applying the inclusion criteria, 33 articles were selected following the stages of the PRISMA Flow diagram. The main findings reveal that the purpose of most studies is to research on the impact of an intervention, that they work under the quantitative approach, that Latin America is where most of the studies were made, and that research is focused on Elementary education. About the rationale underlying the methodological strategy, we managed to determine that most of it is derived from psychology, particularly from cognitivism. It was also determined that most research papers had positive conclusions on their goal, and also that most papers did not state their limitations. In conclusion, this paper invites us to reflect on the weakest aspects of current trends in order to make reflective decisions in order to tackle the issue of students’ low reading level.
