Diabetes mellitus type 2 is currently a public health problem; and studies found that people with this disease had low levels of knowledge and practices prior to the application of educational strategies. Objective: to determine the effectiveness of an educational intervention on the level of knowledge and self-care practices in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a north Lima health centre, 2023. Material and Method: quantitative study, pre-experimental design with a single group of 40 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. A questionnaire, an instrument created by Laime P, was administered before and after the educational intervention, considering ethical principles, and the Wilcoxon test was used to evaluate its effectiveness. Results: the average age of all participants was 59.8 years. The level of knowledge before the intervention was low (60%) and with respect to the level of self-care practices 47.5% had a medium level; afterwards the predominant level of knowledge was high (100%) and the level of self-care practices was high (62.5%) with a statistically significant difference (p=0.000) and (p=0.000) respectively. Conclusion: The application of the Educational Intervention was effective as it increased the level of knowledge and self-care practices of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
