Background: Research to limit the main artifacts due to poor prior patient preparation is quite extensive. However, it is necessary to identify the associated factors to implement actions to counteract it. Objective: Determine the relationship between the factors associated with poor patient preparation and tomographic studies at the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital, Lima 2023. Material and methods: Non-experimental, observational, basic type, descriptive correlational and cross-sectional design study in 150 patients. Inferential analysis was performed using Chi square. Results: 80.7% of patient-dependent factors associated with poor preparation are identified, of these 33.3% are simple studies and 47.3% are contrasted. Associated factors dependent on the professional represent 1.3% of cases. The dependent factors of the patient according to the sociodemographic characteristic were age group from 50 to 69 (31.3%), level of secondary education (58.7%), married marital status (50.7%), dependent employment status (37 ,3%). The structure evaluated tomographically upper and lower abdomen (24%), thorax-upper-lower abdomen (15.3%), brain (14.7%), thorax (12.7%), brain-neck-thorax (6, 7%) and neck (1.3%). The associated factors according to the structure evaluated were the brain and thorax (0.67%) each, dependent on the health personnel. Conclusions: There is a relationship (p=0.006) between patient-dependent factors associated with poor preparation and tomographic studies at the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital, Lima 2023.
