With the emergence of the COVID 19 pandemic, positive cases of this virus and deaths increased rapidly. As a consequence, health professionals had to intervene with more precision and effectiveness, which caused them greater physical and mental exhaustion. In this sense, the general objective of this research was to describe and analyze the psychological impact on health professionals who provided care during the COVD-19 pandemic. Likewise, the specific objectives proposed are to specify and analyze the impact at an emotional, behavioral and cognitive level on health professionals. The type of research design was a systematic review that included the compilation of qualitative, quantitative and mixed design research through electronic libraries such as SciELO, PubMed, Redalyc, Scopus and ProQuest, repositories of national and international universities of the Universidad Privada San Carlos, University de Lima, Universidad de Illes Balears and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. On the other hand, information on medical and pharmacological intervention is constantly increasing, however, with respect to the information available where they demonstrate the effects or describe various psychological alterations in medical and nursing personnel, they are limited. According to what was found, the COVID-19 pandemic has generated a great impact on the mental health of doctors and nurses, especially among female staff and those who hold nursing positions, with the presence of anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, compassion fatigue. In turn, there is the presence of fear or guilt, risk behaviors and alterations in the cognitive process. This not only influences their quality of life, but also the provision of services or the appropriate intervention with their patients. Finally, the research contributed at a theoretical and social level, expanding knowledge and thereby helping to develop programs or better strategies for adequate intervention.
