Background: Dental practice was disrupted by the emergence of covid-19, teleodontology began to be employed connecting the dentist with his patients virtually. Objective: To determine the perception of the usefulness of teleodontology of dentists in Metropolitan Lima (East Lima and Central Lima) at the time of COVID-19, year 2023. Methods and materials: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. The sample was probabilistic, with a sample size of 252 dentists in East and Central Lima. A questionnaire (V-Aiken= 0.92; Cronbach's alpha= 0.886) of 26 items and with a 5-point Likert scale was validated, which evaluated the perception of the dentists in four dimensions. Results: The average age of the dentists was 38.8±7.8 years, the majority of whom were female (63.1%). Eighty-one point seven percent were general dentists, 15.5% were residents/graduates and 2.8% were specialists. The 31.0% had less than 5 years of work experience, 29.8% worked for more than 16 years. The cell phone was the mechanism most used for communication. A total of 38.9% disagreed and disagreed on its usefulness in providing a diagnosis. More than 76% considered it useful to avoid unnecessary trips, especially for those living in remote areas, and because it improves communication. More than 70% had concerns about data security and informed consent. The dental specialty with the highest preference for the application of teledentistry was preventive and social dentistry. Conclusion: The perception of the usefulness of teledentistry in professional practice has proven to be high for 77,4% of the surveyed dentists in professional practice and patient care during the time of COVID-19.
