Objective: Helicobacter pylori infection frequency to compare between two types of gastric carcinoma. Materials and methods: Study of Case Series, data of reports of gastric biopsies from the Instituto Nacional de Enfermadades Neoplásicas (INEN) from the years 1980 and 2002 were collected to compare the frequency of Helicobacter pylori infection between two groups of cases of gastric carcinoma; differentiated and undifferentiated. And each of these was compared with a third reference group of superficial chronic gastritis. The sample consist of 407 cases of undifferentiated carcinoma, 444 of differentiated carcinoma and 714 of superficial chronic gastritis were selected, with an average age: 57.2 (SD: 15.6) years, in the cases of undifferentiated carcinoma: 54 (SD: 16.1) years, the group of differentiated carcinoma: 63 years (SD: 12.2), and in the group of chronic gastritis: 55 years (SD: 16.2). 59% of the undifferentiated cases were female, 46% of the differentiated and 61% of the superficial chronic gastritis were female. Results: A frequency of 20% of Helicobacter pylori infection was found in the cases of undifferentiated carcinoma against a 9% in the cases of differentiated carcinoma was found and 62% in the superficial chronic gastritis group. Conclusions: This study shows a possible association between the presence of Helicobacter pylori infection and undifferentiated carcinoma, compelling us to consider further studies to demonstrate relationship (prospective, longitudinal, with recollection and analysis of multiple variables including gene mapping).
