COVID-19 is a disease caused by coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which produces severe respiratory failure syndrome. The experience of previous epidemics and the COVID-19 pandemic have confirmed that the way in which the population deals with the disease influences its spread. KAP studies (knowledge, attitudes and practices) allow us to identify the behavior of the population and then be able to carry out interventions. The objective was evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of older adults in the Guaranda canton Bolívar Province, Ecuador, regarding prevention measures against COVID -19. It was a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The sample was made up of 132 older adults from the My Best Years Program of the MIES, in the Guaranda Caton Bolivar Ecuador. A questionnaire was applied with sociodemographic variables and the validated KAP on COVID-19. Descriptive statistics were performed and a generalized linear model was used to calculate the proportion ratio. 132 older adults were surveyed; there were 72 women (54.5%) the average age was 72 years, 63% (84) lived in the urban area and 36.4 % (48) lived in the rural area . 28.8% (38) were illiterate and 62.1% had 1 to 6 years of education 47 (38.5%). The most frequent comorbidity was Diabetes Mellitus in 47 (38.5%) and high blood pressure in 26 (21.3%).55.3% have sufficient knowledge, 22.7% of older adults have a positive attitude, and 56.8% of older adults present appropriate practices againts Covid-19. In conclusion regarding COVID-19, 55.3% of older adults have sufficient knowledge, 22.7% of older adults have a positive attitude, and 56.8% of older adults present appropriate practices.
