Introduction: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus mainly generates pulmonary involvement but can affect different organs causing alterations in biochemical parameters. Objective: To determine the frequency of alterations in biochemical markers in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Materials and methods: A cross sectional and retrospective study was carried out starting on the review of 400 laboratory records of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 during the months January, February and March of 2021 obtained from the results platform of the biochemistry laboratory of the Cayetano Heredia Hospital in Lima-Peru. An evaluation of the results of biochemical markers of glucose, ALT, AST, creatinine, urea, sodium, potassium, chlorine, bilirubins, alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transferase and lactate dehydrogenase was performed. Frequency analysis was performed and the relationship of the variables with sex. Results: 62% (248) were male. The most frequent alterations found were lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH)elevation (90.5%), hypertransaminasemia (AST elevation (88%) and ALT elevation (79.5%)), GGT elevation (82.5%), hyperphosphatasemia (79.8%), hyperglycemia (66.5%) and hyponatremia (18.5%). We found a relationship of glucose (p=0.010), urea (p<0.001), creatinine (p<0.001), sodium (p=0.023), chloride (p<0.001), LDH (p=0.007) and ALT (p=0.012) with sex. Conclusions: this study describes a variety of alterations in biochemical markers in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.
