Background: Despite the availability of contraceptive methods (CM); a high rate of unwanted pregnancies still persists mainly due to the lack or misuse of them. The contraceptives most used in first world countries include short acting methods, mainly due to the lack of information to choose more effective methods. In Peru this factor is still important, however, there are more which should be adequately analyzed to propose solutions. Aim: To determine the associated factors to the use of modern contraceptives among peruvian women around 12-49 years based on a national survey ENDES 2021. Materials and methods: Transversal analytic study based on a secondary analysis of the ENDES 2021. The prevalence of modern contraceptive use among the women surveyed was calculated, in addition to the characteristic of contraceptive use. The magnitude of the association between the studied variables with use of modern contraceptives was determined and expressed in prevalence ratios (PR) with their 95% CI in its crude (PRc) and adjusted (PRa) form using Poisson regression. Results: The factors that showed more association were the marital status being married or living together (PRa:2.89; CI95%:2.71-3.08), the age between 20-34 years (PRa:2.48; CI95%:2.29-2.68) and the higher education level (PRa:1.32; CI95%:1.17-1.5). Conclusions: The use of modern CM has increased throughout the last years, which is hence the efforts to increase access should not cease and adequate public health measures should be taken.
