Background: The most prevalent population within non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are type 2 diabetics, who are most susceptible to the development of advanced liver fibrosis. The association between liver fibrosis and the development of cardiovascular events in patients with NAFLD has not been clearly established. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of liver fibrosis detected through controlled vibration elastography and its relationship with the presence of cardiovascular events (stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods: Case series. Clinical records of diabetic patients with Fibroscan ® results from the Ricardo Palma clinic were reviewed for the period 2016-2023. Clinical data and Fibroscan ® results were recorded in Microsoft Excel and subsequently transferred to SPSS V.25.0 software for statistical analysis. Results: Data from 100 patients with NAFLD and type 2 diabetes mellitus were analyzed. The frequency of advanced liver fibrosis and cardiovascular events was 32% and 11%, respectively. Fisher's correlation coefficient between advanced fibrosis and cardiovascular events was significant at 0.034. Conclusions: There is a correlation between advanced fibrosis and cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
