Background: Abdominal pain is one of the main symptoms that are the reason for consultation in the emergency service in older adults. The cause of said pain is multifactorial and can be associated with various variables. For these reasons, it is important to determine which are the most common pathologies that underlie this symptom. Objective: To determine the frequency and most common etiologies of abdominal pain in adult patients aged 60 and over who attended the emergency medicine service of the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital during the year 2022. Methods and Materials: Cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study. Statistical data of patients evaluated in emergency medicine with the main symptom of abdominal pain were reviewed, with an instrument created for this study, which recorded the variables. Results: During the year 2022, 1,691 older adults went to the emergency room due to abdominal pain: 1,478 on a single occasion and 213 on more than one occasion. 65.82% were women, 34.18% were men. The main cause found was abdominal and pelvic pain (R10). Conclusion: 17.1% of patients over 60 years of age who went to the medical emergency due to abdominal pain during 2022; and the most frequent registered cause of this was non-specific etiology and secondly, gastroenteritis and colitis of unspecified origin.
