Background: In Japan in 2010, the PCPS scale was validated, to measure the level of communication skills with terminally ill patients. This instrument has been used to assess the communication skills of healthcare professionals and even measure the impact of training programs on these skills, but none in Peru. Objective: Determine the level of communication skills among medical interns at Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (UPCH). Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Using a cross-cultural adaptation of the original instrument, a Google form was emailed to Medicine students enrolled in the 2023 internship. Data was stored in a database for tabulation, analysis, and interpretation. Results: 147 students responded, with an average age of 24.6 years and 55.1% women. Using a Likert scale, an overall average of 4.15 +/- 0.43 was obtained, with average scores per topics ranging from 3.67 to 4.39. 53.6% of respondents had delivered bad news, while 87.8% had witnessed a doctor delivering bad news, and 59.9% admitted feeling prepared to deliver bad news. Conclusions: Final-year medical students considered to have a high level of ability in effective communication strategies with end-of-life patients and their families. However, lower scores were obtained when evaluating the topic of delirium.
