Depression is a common mental disorder affecting over 280 million people worldwide, with a higher prevalence among women regardless of age (WHO, 2021). In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru, a study involving 58,349 participants revealed that 28.5% exhibited depressive symptoms, with women being more affected, presenting a depressive symptomatology of 30.8% compared to men (23.4%). The objective of this research was to determine the association between sociodemographic variables and depression in women aged 19 to 49 from rural and urban areas of Peru. The study employed a basic level or research, using a non-experimental and cross-sectional design a correlational approach. A probabilistic sample of 9,054 women aged 19 to 49 was selected from the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) 2020 database. The results demonstrated that sociodemographic variables such as marital status (p=0.00), age (p=0.047) and place of residence (p=0.008) were significantly associated with depression, with a p<0.05. In contrast, no statistically significant association was found between educational level and wealth status. To conclude, this study revealed that being in a relationship, being an adult, and residing in urban areas were sociodemographic factors associated with depression in women aged 19-49.
