Biosorption is an alternative that have highlighted than conventional methods to treatment of contaminated water with heavy metals, due mainly, that biosorbent material used can be regenerated and the metal ions involved can be recovered. The target of research was evaluate the maximum equilibrium adsorption capacity of lead (II) in aqueous solutions using of shell tumbo (Passiflora tarminiana Coppens & Barney) powder as a biosorbent. Based on this, before the biosorption process, the biosorbent was characterized by physicochemical (humidity, acidity, pH, cationic exchange, density and porosity) and instrumental studies (FT-IR). During the process, parameters such as the quantity of biosorbent, the concentration of lead (II), the kinetics and pH effects of the solution were analyzed. Aftewards adsorption, the results indicated that lead (II) adsorption was optimal using 0.2 g of powdered biosorbent, at a lead (II) concentration of 10 ppm, at pH 4 for 3 hours of agitation. These factors reached a maximum removal percentage for lead (II) of 93.43 %. Likewise, it was observed that all these data were described according to the Langmuir model, resulting in a maximum lead (II) adsorption capacity of 45.87 mg/g.
