With the advance of the digital society, consumer packaged goods (CPG) and their advertising material require new research approaches to strengthen knowledge about the processing of this information to which consumers are exposed. Visual behaviour is one of these branches and techniques such as eyetracking allow us to gain insight into the audience's response to a stimulus. In addition, psychological factors such as cognitive styles influence the perception and structuring of information, affecting how images are viewed. The main objective of the study was to analyse the visual attention of people with Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI) cognitive styles towards three areas of interest (AoIs) of BCE images (image, brand and product name). Two subsamples were assembled with 30 participants of both cognitive styles who viewed 10 packages in an eyetracking experiment and statistical tests were conducted to compare their visual attention metrics. According to the results, the image is the AoI with the highest attractiveness regardless of cognitive style. Although there were no consistent trends across cognitive styles, in all significant differences found FIs performed higher on their visual metrics.
