The present investigation has the objective of determining the relationship between partner jealousy and psychological distress in university students of a university in Ambato - Ecuador. Likewise, it was a basic type of research and with a non-experimental descriptive-comparative correlational cross-sectional design. 250 students of both sexes participated, and with ages between 18 and 30 years, who carry out undergraduate studies at a university in Ambato - Ecuador. The Multidimensional Jealousy Questionnaire and the Symptom Checklist 90, Revised (SCL-90-R) were used. It was found that the relationship between partner jealousy and psychological distress is not significant, nor is the relationship between the dimensions of partner jealousy and psychological distress significant. In addition, it was found that there are no significant differences in the dimensions or in the jealousy of the couple according to sex. It is concluded that the sociocultural context influences the perception of partner jealousy, which is why these tend to normalize, and therefore psychological discomfort is not accentuated, but it does increase the probability of dysfunctional behaviors in the relationship.
