First, we conducted a search in PubMed, prioritizing studies up to 5 years old, using the keywords: Mouth Neoplasms, Risk Factor, and Oral Cancer, obtaining 556 results. Using the cross-sectional studies filter, 5 studies were found in a systematic way, 1 in a manual way and 2 in a non-systematized way. These documents were evaluated and incorporated into this study. Evidence analysis: The different articles show that oral cancer not only has smoking and alcoholism as risk factors, but also other emerging risk factors, the characteristics of which are highly controversial. Conclusion: Oral cancer is an important health problem globally, with smoking and alcohol abuse as risk factors, and other emerging risk factors such as genetics, systemic condition, diet and nutrition, pollution, socioeconomic status, emerging and sexual habits.
