Background: Adverse cutaneous drug reactions (ACDR) represent an important health problem. They include various clinical and histological features. Objectives: To describe the main clinical and histological features of adverse cutaneous drug reactions in hospitalized patients and outpatients in Cayetano Heredia Hospital from 2017-2019. Materials and methods: Observational, descriptive and retrospective study. Epidemiological (age and sex) and clinical (diagnosis and clinical presentation, time of onset, comorbidities, presence of polypharmacy and drugs used) data was retrieved from the medical records of hospitalized patients and outpatients diagnosed ACDR with skin biopsies at Cayetano Heredia Hospital from 2017 to 2019. The data were registered in Google Forms and the statistical analysis was performed using Excel. Results: Out of 58 cases of cutaneous ADRs, 29 occurred in hospitalized patients (50%) and 29 in the outpatient setting (50%). The most frequent type of ACDR in hospitalized patients was morbilliform rash (37,93%) while in the outpatient setting it was fixed drug erythema (20,68%). The most common histological pattern was, in both scenarios, superficial perivascular dermatitis (44,83% and 37,93%, respectively). Conclusions: Adverse cutaneous drug reactions constitute a wide and diverse range of clinical and histological features. Clinicopathological correlation is key for diagnosis and differentiation from other dermatological entities.
