Introduction: Type 2 diabetes Mellitus and depression have formed a vicious cycle that becomes increasingly frequent over time, and the patient's glycemic control may be affected in some way. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between depression and metabolic control, in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, who attended the Velasco Ibarra Type C Health Center. Methodology: Analytical, cross-sectional, observational study. The sample was obtained for convenience including patients who attended the outpatient clinic between March and June 2020. The Beck Depression Inventory II and the data collection form were used. The statistical program SPSS 15.0 was used for the bivariate and multivariate statistical analysis. The T-Student test and the chi square test were applied, with confidence intervals (95%). Results: The sample consisted mainly of women, married and individuals with a basic level of education. The mean age was 50.24 years. The patients had an evolution time ≤ 10 years, they were on treatment with oral antidiabetic drugs. Diabetic retinopathy was the most frequent chronic complication (13%). The prevalence of depression was 47.4%, with 24.7% being mild depression. The levels of depression were not associated with the metabolic control of the patients (p= 0.440), but they were associated with the time of evolution of DM2 (p<0.001) and with age (p=0.025). Conclusions: Depression was not associated with metabolic control of patients with DM2 at the Velasco Ibarra Health Center type C.
