Background: The cesarean section rate has been increasing in various countries around the world, including Peru, where the limit set by the World Health Organization (WHO) has already been exceeded. However, there haven’t been many studies concerning this topic. Objectives: Determine the frequency of cesarean sections practiced in Cayetano Heredia Hospital during 2021. Material and methods: A descriptive study has been carried out based on data on deliveries performed at the Cayetano Heredia Hospital in Lima, Peru during the year 2021 using the Robson Classification and processed in STATA 17. Results: 3 981 participants were obtained during the year 2021 where the global cesarean rate was 56.24%. The Robson’s predominant group was 5 with 36.71% of all cesarean sections, followed by group 2 with 22.24% and group 10 with 12.42%. Groups 5 and 2 had cesarean section rates of 82.04% and 88.45%, respectively. Conclusions: The rate of caesarean sections in our hospital exceeds what was established by the WHO. It should be analyzed both groups 5 and 2 wherever they meet the criteria for indication of cesarean section to reduce the cases of this surgical intervention in these groups, thus helping to avoid unnecessary cesarean sections. More studies are required in our hospital to be able to compare the variations in the rates of the groups in later years.
